“Magic Summer” DROPS-Along — April 30, 2018

“Magic Summer” DROPS-Along

One of the next CAL I’m planning to participate in is the “Magic Summer” DROPS-Along by Garnstudio. This CAL is to crochet a shawl. They include step-by-step pictures as well as videos, so I hope to learn lots. It begins on Thursday, May 3rd. The tags for this CAL are #DROPSAlong and #MagicSummerCAL.

Materials can be found on the “What do I need to start?” page.

A 4mm hook is recommended or a size to obtain 18 treble crochets x 8 rows = 10 cm square. So, I still need to make a swatch. I’m planning to do that today or tomorrow, so I’m ready to go :-).

I’ve decided to use my own rendition of the colors (DROPS DROPS Cotton Light):

colour letter – Provided – Mine

  • colour a – pearl grey – light grey
  • colour b – grape – purple
  • colour c – green – bright green
  • colour d – brown – brown
  • colour e – yellow – buttercup
  • colour f – red – red
  • color g – khaki – taupe
  • colour h – dark grey – dark grey
  • colour i – off white – ivory
  • colour j – light jeans blue – royalty

Here’s a link to the image of their colors above.

I’ll get a picture of my colors

Sweetpea Blanket Crochet Along Week 1

So, I found the Sweetpea Blanket Crochet along on accident while looking for CAL. Of course it had already begun, so I’m behind, but loving every minute.

I just finished the first week. I bought lots of cotton yarn about a year ago on sale at Hobby Lobby and decided to use it for this blanket. I didn’t have all the colors asked in the pattern, so I’ve made some adjustments, but tried to keep it Spring-like.

Here’s what I have for the first week:

Cosmic CAL —

Cosmic CAL

I’m beginning the Cosmic CAL. Here are the colors I chose:

  • Antique White
  • Pastel Blue
  • Claret
  • Denim
  • Cherry
  • Honey Bee
  • Lavender
  • Pastel Green
  • Pastel Pink

The CAL runs 9 weeks. I’m excited to get started and see what it looks like in the end. It’s a great way to learn new stitches and create something awesome in the process. I’ll keep you all updated as the weeks progress.

#TournamentofStitches

I found the #TournamentofStitches on MarlyBird.com. Since I’ve been looking for CAL, this sounded like a lot of fun, so I joined in. I really enjoyed this mystery CAL. I know I have some issues, but it was so much fun. I chose to do the “be quiet, I’m crocheting” is weeks 2-4.

Here’s what I ended up with;

Game Day Make-Along 2018

I’ve been looking for CAL so I can learn new stitches. I found one by Marley Bird from February 4. I wish I’d been interested in doing this then. Anyways, I found the pattern here. I learned the pineapple stitch and a spike stitch. It’s cool what you can pick up from these.

Ultimately, this turned out to be a cowl. It easily slides over your head.
