Developing Chains

My crochet journey.

Hats — February 28, 2018

My last round with hats was a disaster, but eventually I knew I’d should try again. So, I found a great site promising a 30 minute hat. She was right it does take between 30-45 minutes per hat. It’s a very simple pattern and i was so happy when the hat looked like a hat. Eventually, I plan to get more complex, but for now this was a great start. Originally, I made a grey hat, but then decided to try different types of yarn to see if the pattern was still as great – YES!

Coasters — February 25, 2018

I wanted to try creating some coasters. I really enjoyed creating them because they are fast. I can do about 4 per hour. Sure beats doing a blanket 😃. I noticed there is curling on both sets, so now I need to learn how to block my projects. But for this round, I’m happy.

Midland Basket — February 23, 2018

Midland Basket

I’ve been wanting to crochet a basket, but I’m not good with keeping the rounds even. This pattern was challenging for me just like I was worried. Even though, I continued with the pattern and made it through to the end. All in all, it turned out well. The basket isn’t symmetrical, but it definitely can hold items. It’s that the overall point? I would definitely try this pattern from Lion Brand again.

Small Clutch —

Small Clutch

I’ve been looking around for patterns that aren’t blankets lately. I found some small clutch images, but finding a pattern seemed to be more difficult. I then rad across Dot’s Little Ditty Bag. It was so cute and looked like it wouldn’t take that long to work up. I used part of a skein I had left over. It took about 2 hours to complete the clutch. It is so cute. I used the H hook as indicated. A stitch marker really is needed to keep track of the rounds. I actually had an extra stitch, but you’d never know it if I hadn’t said anything.

Fluffy Meringue Shawl —
Granny Square Craze —

Granny Square Craze

I had this wild idea over Christmas to make all these granny squares. Of course now I’m not sure what I was thinking because I have to put them together to make the blanket. It’s not that it’s difficult to do either. It’s more time consuming than anything. There’s a reason I took up crocheting and not sewing 😃.

Anyways, I really enjoyed making the individual squares, but next time I think I’ll do the crocheting together as I go method.

Market Bag — February 21, 2018

Market Bag

I attempted my first crochet market bag. It really wasn’t as hard as I seemed to think it was going to be. I used a pattern from yarnspirations. There is also a YouTube video from the Crochet Crowd that helped with a visual.

I know there are some issues with my bag, but I’m so pleased with how it looks.

Fast-Track Yarn Shawl/Scarf — February 18, 2018

Fast-Track Yarn Shawl/Scarf

I’ve been wanting to try out the fast-track yarn from Lion Brand. It finally went on sale, so I bought some and the rest is history. It really does fast-track. I used the v-stitch to create the pattern. The scarf became really long, so I decided that it might be more of a shawl for someone. I used dark blue and tan.

Final size – 82″ x 11″

I’ve included a folded up view as well as a close up view.

Shawl – soft —

Shawl – soft

I adapted a pattern from Beatrice Ryan Designs to create this shawl. I ended up leaving off the ends because it looked strange with the variegated yarn. I used an H hook instead of the I. The shawl didn’t take much time at all. I love the way the pattern turned out. However, it ended up not being as long as I had hoped. I may go back and add something to the ends later. Something to ponder.

I have added pictures of the front, the back and the front up close.
