Developing Chains

My crochet journey.

Soft Modern Granny — January 31, 2018

Soft Modern Granny

After completing a chunky modern granny, I had to try the stitch again in a finer yarn to see what it looked like. So, I had some Loops & Threads Snuggly Wuggly Big yarn in Pale Blue. Since it was 14 oz, I thought it would make a good size using a 4.5 mm hook. The final blank is about 40″ x 32″. I really do like the clean look of the modern granny. This blanket is machine washable and dryable.

Chunky Modern Granny

I found a pattern for a Modern Granny and loved it. It’s just enough more contemporary than the traditional granny square. I used an “L” hook and 6.5 skeins of Deborah Norville Serenity Chunky in Majesty. For my first try, I think it turned out great. The final size is 48″ x 32″. It went together really quickly.

My Siamese cats really like the chunky yarn, so they are apart of the pictures this go around.

Rainbow Granny Square — January 24, 2018

Rainbow Granny Square

I’ve been wanting to try the Red Heart Stripes yarn, so I bought 5 skeins (used 4.5) of the Favorite Stripe. While the skeins look pretty, it turned out that they are actually rainbow colors. For this blanket, I chose not to include the chain between my 3-dc clusters. Usually, I don’t add a border to my blankets, but with all of the beautiful colors I had to. I used a single crochet all the way around and then a double crochet all the at around to finish the border. It turned out so nice it’s hard to give it away, but there is always a child that needs it more than me.

Gift Bag — January 15, 2018

Gift Bag

I haven’t tried many things outside of blankets. So, I wanted to. I found a pattern from lion brand for a wedding gift bag. It was really easy to do. It was one that you have to fold in half and stitch together. While that isn’t difficult it worries me how secure it really is. I think it turned out well for my first try.

Baby Blanket — January 11, 2018

Baby Blanket

I’ve completed my first blanket of the year. My goal this year is to keep track of everything I crochet. I chose to do a granny square using a 4.0 mm hook. When I do the granny square I don’t add a chain in between groups of three. I chain two in the corners. Using this method it gives me the lines on each row.

The blanket is 32″ x 32″:
